Situated in the heart of Montreal Downtown and located in a recent building, the Chemistry Department of UQAM offers certificate, bachelor, master and doctoral degrees in chemistry and biochemistry. The department, which has celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2010, maintains a long tradition of conviviality and scientific excellence, while offering a unique teaching environment in small groups, oriented not only toward theoretical knowledge but also toward the development of practical skills in chemistry and biochemistry. The quality of our teaching, in particular through our practical curriculum, is recognized by the Quebec employers, and the job prospect for our graduates is excellent.
In Fall 2014, the department was constituted of 150 undergraduate students, 100 graduate students, numerous trainees (postdocs, and trainees from foreign universities), 23 professors, and 20 research professionals, techniciens and staff members. The department hosts a top-notch infrastructure, not only in research facilities but also in teaching laboratories
The department hosts approximately twenty research groups in contemporary research areas of chemistry and biochemistry, such as molecular biochemistry, chemical physics, synthesis and catalysis, environment chemistry and materials chemistry. These groups are led by researchers of international renown, as shown by the numerous publications issued from their laboratories. We invite you to browse through the web sites of each of the professors of the department, in order to discover the fascinating researches that are performed in the department.
