Death of Professor Pierre Pichet

It is with sadness that the Department of Chemistry at UQAM announces the passing of retired professor Pierre Pichet, who died on March 24, 2025, at the age of 82. He held a doctorate in analytical chemistry from the University of Montreal and was one of the twelve founding professors of the Chemistry Department when UQAM was created in 1969.

Pierre Pichet distinguished himself through his remarkable commitment to departmental management, taking over as head of the chemistry module in 1971 and of CRESALA (Center for Research in Applied Food Sciences) in 1976. His pioneering research in environmental sciences focused in particular on contamination by mercury derivatives in lakes and flooded soils. His contribution to the development of the department and the university remains a valuable legacy for the entire academic community. His colleagues will long remember his cheerfulness and good humor, which brightened up meetings between retired professors.

The Department of Chemistry extends its sincere condolences to Pierre Pichet's family and loved ones.
